There was a change made to the format of the batteries & chargers.

The older batteries only have 3 available slots for the charger's pins to slot into to make contacts.

The newer chargers have 4 prongs that need to slot into the batteries, so the newer chargers are NOT suitable for these older batteries.

The older chargers however, still are suitable for the newer batteries.
